Major General John Batiste (US Army, Retired)

Co-Founder & Partner
John Batiste is a 1974 graduate of the United States Military Academy. He served 31 years in the US Army as an infantry officer with deployments in the First Gulf War, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Iraq in 2004.

His final position was Commanding General of the 1st Infantry Division during peace enforcement operations in Kosovo and combat operations in Iraq.

He transitioned to the steel industry in late 2005 and first served as president of Klein Steel until 2013. During this period, Klein Steel was recognized as one of ten IndustryWeek Best Plants in North America and a New York State Best Place to Work. His passion to find a better way to produce armor led him to start a new steel company, Buffalo Armory. Since 2013, the company has 11 granted patents on its unique induction technology and is recognized for its ballistic solutions in the markets of body armor, police car door armor, and ballistic barriers for schools, places of worship, and offices.

In 2016, John and his daughter, Jeanette, partnered to form Batiste Leadership to assist companies and organizations to define, build, and nurture cultures of trust and empowerment.

John has served on non-profit boards in support of Veterans and is a past executive committee member of the Raffles Insurance Captive and Metals Service Center Institute.

Jeanette Batiste-Harrison

Jeanette is passionate about helping individuals and organizations reach their full potential. She incorporates world class research with practical leadership principles and coaching to assist clients in making lasting change.

Jeanette has almost 20 years of leadership experience in diverse and dynamic workplaces. She began as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Malawi in 2003. After completing her Peace Corps service, she worked with African Parks Conservation and then ASAP Africa. She worked in Malawi for 6 years in varying capacities, focusing on food security for rural, subsistence farmers. Her program management included microfinancing and access to farm inputs for smallholder farmers. She moved to Rochester NY and joined Foodlink, the regional food bank, in 2009.

She held varying management and leadership roles at Foodlink over 6 years, and ultimately served as the Co-Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. In this capacity she oversaw the sourcing and distribution of over 18 million pounds of food per year to over 500 partner organizations across 10 counties in upstate NY. She left her role at Foodlink in 2015 to join her dad in launching Batiste Leadership.

Jeanette graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a B.S. in Environmental Science and a B.A. in Political Science. She graduated from the London School of Economics with a MSc in Environment and Development. She proudly completed her 500-hour Yoga Teacher Trainer Certification in 2015 and incorporates mindfulness in her leadership coaching and training. She was awarded the Rochester Business Journal 40 under 40 in 2014. She also graduated from Leadership Rochester in 2013.
